Robert Boatman is an Oak Glen, California based artist. Robert’s artistic journey began over 55 years ago as a young teenager. His love of drawing and art led him to majoring in art and architecture in college. Marriage and fatherhood followed and pursuing his passion for art was “put on hold” for many years, but the passion never waned and his artistic endeavors remained as a hobby artist. Now retired from a full time career outside of the fine art world, he has found the time to immerse himself in the art world he set aside.
Robert’s love of the mountains, rural places, and the ocean are his main inspirations. He has spent the last few summers in Montana where inspiration has been plentiful. “The drama of the open range, grassy meadows, the countryside… all provide endless moments of creativity. I can’t resist trying to capture the feeling of freedom and spiritual peace that comes from those special moments around sunset on a deserted beach or in a grassy meadow on a summer day”.
Recently, Robert and his wife Laurie, have also spent time in the Lowcountry of South Carolina and Georgia. Live oaks draped in Spanish Moss, shrimp boats, and salt marshes are wonderfully inspiring and are waiting to come to life in Robert’s hands.
