Holly Bjorkstrom spent her childhood growing up on a farm where she learned her love for birding and the appreciation of nature’s beauty and diversity from her father. Fast forward through a long business career and raising two daughters, this love of the outdoors has emerged into a passion for landscape painting, both in the outdoors (‘en plein air’) and in the studio. Her training has been intense self-study supplemented with in-person artist led workshops including Connie Winters [impressionism], Kelli Folsom [still life] and Lori Putnam [plein air]. Holly’s oil paintings have continued on in an impressionistic style, striving to capture the emotion or spirit of the natural scenery and convey it to the viewer. Her constant dedication to painting and learning, as well as the study of contemporary master painters, are the most important elements of her artistic development.
“I find so much inspiration in the natural beauty of the Lowcountry and beaches of South Carolina and Georgia. I feel blessed to call this area home and feel as if, in a sense, this has always been my center, my home. Aspiring to capture the beauty and tranquility of the landscapes is an honor as well as a calling.”
Holly’s paintings have been juried into a number of art exhibitions, receiving awards including Best of Show and featured in local newspaper articles. After living in North Carolina throughout her career, she and her husband now call the beautiful Lowcounty of South Carolina home.
