Bluffton’s Spring Art Walk Bursts with Creativity
Posted on by Betsy Hinderliter
Back in April, the Old Town Bluffton Merchants Association hosted its spring Art Walk set against the charming and rustic ambiance of our coastal town. Approximately 300 to 400 locals and visitors strolled the galleries and working studios, both indoor and outdoor. The Bluffton Art District hosts walks 3 times per year, showcasing pretty much every conceivable type of local and regional type of art – from watercolor, pastel and acrylic paintings to pottery, ironwork, sculpture, fine woodworking, basketry and more!
Ever popular local artists like Lynda Potter and Louanne LaRoche as well as newcomers like Murray Sease relish the opportunity to show “their best” but also delight in the one-on-one aspect of these events in particular. Other artists at the Walk included Al-Harry (also new to Bluffton) with his fabulous custom painted furniture, and Andrea Peajeau offering her lovely seaside images.
The artsy side of Old Town continues to play a significant role in the sustainable business model for Bluffton. “We are grateful for the funds available through our local accommodations tax to fund these events that draw visitors from our target spoke wheel of 30 miles,” adds Charlene Gardner, owner of the Four Corners Gallery. The town of Bluffton and it’s residents are very committed to supporting the arts and what a wonderful thing that is!
The eclectic and the elegant make the art scene in Bluffton vibrant!. Many working artist’s studios and galleries make their ‘home’ in charming, renovated cottages lining the moss draped streets.
Four Corners Gallery, just a tad off the off the beaten trail of centrally located Calhoun Street, had their “Man Show” featuring James Lewis’ gorgeous impressionistic work, among others in full swing. Gardner added, “All the Bluffton galleries look forward to welcoming visitors to Old Town and sharing the works of their artists.”
The participating Galleries are proactive here too – thrilled to positively contribute to Bluffton’s celebrated persona as a ‘funky and friendly’ village where one, no matter if they’re a local or visitor, can find themselves immersed instantly in that Bluffton state of mind. At an event like the Spring Art Walk that mantra is not elusive – it’s found in every friendly “hey there, ya’ll!”, every smile and every sip of homemade iced tea.
If you are fascinated by art and love that unique, creative side of life found in Bluffton, then by all means attend the next Art Walk – planned for November. Be sure to check back in our Bluffton event calendar for updates and details.
